Until 1KIDS classes resume, you can keep your child connected to Jesus by helping them with their weekly memory verse!
Memory Verse for the Week of
August 2, 2020
TAKE SOME TIME TO PONDER THIS AS A FAMILY:
Our memory verse this week is John 3:30. It says “He must become greater; I must become less.” I think this verse can be hard for all of us. How often do we find ourselves automatically thinking about ourselves… ‘I didn’t get enough sleep last night’, ‘I’m hungry’, ‘I want to watch a movie’, ‘I want the shortest line at the grocery store’. Most of our day is FILLED with many little “I” statements. Right now, let's each take a moment to think of as many “I” statements as we can that we said out loud or thought in our heads today.
You thought of way more than you thought you would, didn't you! We don't even realize how much we think of ourselves all day long! We think about what food we want to eat, how that person frustrated us, what we want to do after school or work. But what if we have our focus wrong?
Sometimes we don't have our thoughts focused on Jesus enough. We let ourselves become greater. Our memory verse from the bible tells us we need to be doing the opposite. We need to glorify God and let His work be greater in our lives. We need to keep shifting the focus. Kids, when we find ourselves thinking 'how can I get closer to the front of the lunch line?', we need to stop ourselves and think 'how can I make God greater in this moment?' Parents, when we find ourselves thinking 'which line is the shortest?' while in the grocery store, we need to stop ourselves and think 'how can I make God greater in this moment? With everything we do we need to ask ourselves that question, because we want God and His work to shine, not us. When we catch ourselves doing that we need to: stop, pray, and then take an action step.
Pray and ask God to help you and your family always make God greater and yourselves less. Ask Him to help you shift the focus away from yourselves and towards God. Ask Him for ways that you can share the gospel or show Jesus' love to someone else.
Now it's time to take an action step! Read through the options and commit to at least one step as a family. Feel free to think of other ways too!
If you can, we recommend the whole family read over this verse every morning and practice repeating it!

1KIDS is a children’s ministry uniquely designed with your child in mind! Kids - birth through fifth grade - experience safe, age-appropriate environments where the Bible is taught in a creative and relevant way. We believe that everything we do on Sunday morning should help children find and follow Jesus! Come join the fun and experience a world where kids meet Jesus on their level!
Our 1KIDS Nursery (Birth - 2), Preschool (ages 3 - 5), Elementary 1 (ages 6 - 8), and Elementary 2 (ages 9 - 11) ministries are available during our 9:00 am Sunday service.
Our elementary program is a fast paced, interactive experience that helps elementary aged kids take next steps with God. We believe God is fun and creative and we pattern our teaching after Him. We help kids learn through the use of video, crazy fun object lessons, engaging skits and really cool music, along with age appropriate small group interaction. Our loving and committed leaders teach spiritual truths they can use in their daily lives whether at home, school or their neighborhood. Our hope is for every kid to know how much Jesus loves them and wants a relationship with them, now and forever.
